Summer is the best season to visit Minnesota—we argue that Minnesotan summers are the best in the country. After early September, weather in the state becomes cold and unpredictable. Minnesota has been known to have blizzards at the end of April. Pack accordingly and research the weather right before leaving.
Skip the Mall of America, and head straight to Minneapolis. For first time visitors, we recommend spending 3 to 4 days in Minneapolis to experience the city’s museums, performing arts scene, dining, and day trips (Stillwater, we’re looking at you).
After, a visit to the North Shore (Lake Superior) or the Boundary Waters is a must. We love stopping in Duluth for lunch or dinner at The New Scenic Cafe, Fitger’s Brewhouse, or Hungry Hippie Tacos before heading to Two Harbors, Tofte, or Grand Marais.
